Call for Proposals: Evaluation Bursaries 2021-2022
The Directorate of Student Experience, Teaching and Learning (SETL), incorporating Student Engagement, Evaluation and Research (STEER), are delighted to share with you this call for proposals for Evaluation Bursaries (aligned to the Course Improvement Plan) 2021-2022. These Evaluation Bursaries run in parallel with the College Teaching, Learning & Student Experience Enhance Projects, and colleagues may apply to both Schemes.
Proposals for Evaluation Bursaries may be submitted by any Course Leader who:
- is leading/planning to lead an evidence informed teaching and learning activity/initiative;
- has noted this activity/initiative on their Course Improvement Plan (CIP) for September 2021-July 2022; and
- has secured the support of both their Head of Teaching, Learning and Enhancement and their Line Manager (which will need to be included on the application form).
Applications are encouraged from a range of teaching and learning contexts across the University including the Collaborative CIP, in addition to the standard CIP.
Applications can be submitted for up to £1,000 (which will need to be spent by July 2022) on:
- payment for student participation in the design and evaluation of the teaching and learning activity/initiative;
- payment for student participation in collaborative capacity-building workshops; and
- costs associated with the dissemination of outputs.
The bursary will not cover the costs of staff time or buy out from existing activities. SETL will provide administrative support for the teaching and learning activity/initiative (student payments, bookings, communications), and will train and support the students working on these projects within their existing and expanding community of student researchers. Further details about costings are provided below.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel and judged against the following criteria:
- Action required: clear overall aim/specific objective(s)
- Rationale: strategic need for the teaching and learning activity/initiative
- Inputs/resource/development needs: well thought-through and budgeted for
- Collaboration and engagement: evidence of an action plan for involving other university staff, student researchers and (if applicable) student participants
- Progress/Updates: specific, timely milestones specified
- Team: consideration of specific team roles and plans for overall management of the project
Prospective applicants are invited to informally discuss their ideas with the STEER team – contact: jill.dickinson@shu.ac.uk. Closing date for applications: 5pm, Friday 10 September 2021. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 24 September 2021.
Successful applicants will be invited to:
- engage with a focused support package to aid the design and implementation of the activity and evaluation of impact via collaborative workshops and online resources;
- join a cross-University Stakeholder Group, involving STEER, College leadership and Quality, to discuss progress and learning;
- contribute their CIP to the University’s quality assurance audit; and
- share their findings through the University’s Evaluation Repository, institutional events and beyond.
