Congratulations on your offer of a place here at Sheffield Hallam University!
As an applicant to a Teacher Training course, there are a number of professional checks that you are required to complete. Some of these checks are managed by organisations outside of the University. It is essential that you start these checks immediately to avoid any delays in starting your course. There is no charge for any of the checks.
For PGCE applicants, these checks impact on the progression of your application. Failure to complete the required checks in a timely fashion will mean that your offer of a place is withdrawn.
For Undergraduate applicants, these checks impact on your ability to fully enrol on the course. Failure to complete the checks in a timely fashion will mean that you can only conditionally enrol onto the course pending completion of the checks. You can only be conditionally enrolled for the first 4 weeks of the course after which you will be withdrawn if checks are not completed. When you are conditionally enrolled you are not liable for any tuition fees and you are not able to access any student funding.
The professional checks all Teacher Trainees need to complete are below, we have also created a checklist for you to track your progress:
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check – this is a two step process consisting of an online application and an ID check.
- Suitability Declaration – this is completed online
- Health Questionnaire – this is a confidential process facilitated by the Sheffield Teaching Hospital Occupational Health Service.
- For PGCE students only – Degree Certificate verification – this has to be carried out in person at the University.
Information about each of the above checks can be found as you progress through this website. Make a start with the DBS check.
Here’s a recap and reminder to ensure you are familiar with everything you need to do.
