A PhD student, Taiwo Agunbiade and a researcher, Olalekan Ojedokun from MERI received two awards for outstanding papers at the recently concluded International Conference on Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies SCMT6 held at Lyon, France.
Postgraduate students here in I2Ri have again returned an impressive Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) this year.
The results show that across all disciplines in I2Ri, (BMRC, MERI, CENTRIC, NCEFE and the current departments of E&M, B&C and Computing) overall satisfaction from last year increased by a huge 9% and is now at 80%.
Aerospace Cutting Tool (ACT) ltd., in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University and CSL Soft ltd., have developed the world’s first all-electric Superplastic Forming/Diffusion Bonding press, which went on show to the public for the first time at the MACH 2024 exhibition. Using electro-mechanical actuators, the new press offers a cost- effective, affordable solution with the added advantage of increased process flexibility within a single unit.

Innovate UK received 506 AKT applications in Round 2 which closed at the end of last year and have awarded just over £5m of funding to 35% of these – two of which are led by I2Ri academics
Dr Marjory Da Costa Abreu from the department of computing will work with a team based in the Department of Politics and International Relations (University of Sheffield) to investigate the responsible use of AI in the museum and heritage sector, specifically in relation to biases in AI which stem from the colonial history of museum collections.
Nick Pickett has been successful in being awarded a 2-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Sidetracker Engineering, hot off the back of another KTP he was awarded in August last year with Preformed Windings Ltd.
Mulualem and Nik are the first appointees within the University’s Transforming Lives Fellowship campaign. The TLF campaign is part of the University’s growth strategy for research and innovation, alongside the Transforming Lives PhD Scholarships, Sheffield Hallam Research and Innovation Fund (SHRIF), and the Researcher and Innovator Development Academy (RIDA).
