PRES Results 2024
Postgraduate students here in I2Ri have again returned an impressive Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) this year.
The results show that across all disciplines in I2Ri, (BMRC, MERI, CENTRIC, NCEFE and the current departments of E&M, B&C and Computing) overall satisfaction from last year increased by a huge 9% and is now at 80%.
BMRC saw the return to previous high-ranking scores for overall satisfaction, increasing significantly from 63% in 2023 to 89%, whilst students based in MERI, NCEFE and the Department of Engineering and Maths saw overall satisfaction increase from 75% to 80%. Computing and CENTRIC students also registered their biggest increase in the challenging Opportunities element, increasing from 25% in 2022, to 50% in 2023 to 71% in 2024.
Overall, I2Ri Research Culture increased from 57% to 64%, and the new category of questions centered around Community only introduced to the PRES survey in 2023, increased from 58% to 67%. These pleasing results reflect the engagement from students and supervisors in workshops focused on developing these areas (after responding to PRES survey feedback), and attendance at the many associated events ranging from the I2Ri symposium to lunches and charity cake sales.
Other highlights include maintaining our high scores in Supervision at 88%, Professional Development up from 82% to 84%, Research Skills at 89%, and Progress and Assessment at 85%.
The support we give our PGR community is a team effort, so it is with thanks to I2Ri’s Head of Research Degrees (Francis Clegg), our Postgraduate Research Tutors (David Asquith, Marjory Da Costa Abreu, Sue Campbell), and our outstanding PGR professional services teams in I2Ri (Alex Preston, Jen Sturch, Rachel Toogood, Em Worton, Jane Wright).
Without a doubt, the drive and motivation of students and supervisors, your hard work and dedication, and the determination to succeed is reflected in these scores. Keep up the amazing research and make sure to attend the new PRES 2024 workshops in the Autumn to contribute to continued feedback and actions.
