Fin O’Flaherty speaks at The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE)
Professor Fin O’Flaherty from the Centre for Infrastructure Management was an invited speaker at The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) ‘Reusing existing buildings’ conference held in London on Wednesday 7th December 2023.
Fin gave a presentation entitled ‘An introduction to non-destructive testing for core building materials’ and participated afterwards in a Q&A session. The presentation concentrated on state-of-the-art techniques for inspecting and testing core building materials such as concrete, steel, masonry and timber.
These materials and test techniques also feature very prominently in the very successful six-day ‘Bridge Inspectors Training Course’ which Fin leads and delivers on for training UK and international bridge inspectors.
With over 150 engineers in attendance either in the auditorium or online, the IStructE event was also an excellent opportunity to network and not only promote the Bridge Inspectors Training Course, but also a forthcoming hands-on CPD training course that he is developing on the use of the non-destructive test techniques presented at the conference.
