AWRC submits evidence to select committee on physical activity in an ageing society

The AWRC submitted evidence to the Government’s Select Committee inquiry into physical activity in an ageing society.
The Health and Social Care Committee is exploring how physical activity can help prevent and reduce ill health in a society where healthy life expectancy is stalling and inequalities are growing.
Although it is known to help prevent and manage health conditions, physical activity levels are declining, particularly among older people. The Committee will examine how this trend might be reversed, and whether increasing physical activity could help tackle widening health inequalities and slow the growing regional gap in healthy life expectancy.
Our response drew on evidence from AWRC and partner research, and focused on five key areas:
- Embedding Physical Activity into Health Systems
- Place-Based, Inclusive Approaches
- Addressing Barriers to Participation
- Cross-Sector Collaboration
- Sustainable Investment and Evaluation
