AWRC co-locator Dr Elysa Ioannou of the School of Sport and Physical Activity spoke to BBC Look North yesterday in their feature on programmes tackling obesity in South Yorkshire.
Elysa highlighted that while education is important, weight stigma remains deeply rooted in society, and there’s still a tendency to focus on individual responsibility rather than critical social, environmental, and policy factors.
A whole-systems approach is essential to address the complex drivers of obesity, which are strongly linked to deprivation and poverty.
