Ethical governance models for research-mature local authorities

A team from the Health Determinants Research Collaboration Doncaster (HDRC) have written to Public Health in Practice to reflect on the ethical and governance challenges and opportunities of doing research within local authorities.
The HDRC have spent the past two years working at the intersection of academic and local government systems. Based on their experiences, they argue that as local authorities become more research mature there’s a growing need to move beyond traditional university-led assurance models, towards hybrid models which incorporate both research governance and ethical clearance.
