Be collaborative

In your job role you will be working with and alongside experts, professionals, colleagues and peers, who are also learning things every day. They are all stakeholders to your apprenticeship and you should consistently tap into their support and knowledge to accelerate your development. Be aware of how they differ in the way they demonstrate skills and continue to refine their own behaviour in different situations. Be clear and assertive about what you want to learn, how and when so they can focus their support. Balance that with respect and recognition of the help and expertise on offer. We have all been there and most people will want to find the time to share their perspective and ideas with an enthusiastic new colleague, who is curious about their work.

As you develop in your career, it will become easier for you to offer something in return and you might be surprised at how much value is placed on your existing skill set. Here is an inspiring message from Megan, a trainee business analyst at Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Trust.
