SUMMARY

I am Jade McDonald, PhD scholar and Associate Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University.

My research focuses on secure, privacy-preserving IoT solutions for the hearing-impaired. I am also President of CyberWomen@SHU and an Ethical Hacker at the North East Business Resilience Centre.

RESEARCH

My research focuses on developing an adoptable, privacy-preserving secure IoT solution to improve independent living for the hearing-impaired. The project aims to create a comprehensive smart home system that enhances sound awareness and interaction with the environment.

Key objectives include investigating current challenges and technologies, developing a secure and privacy-conscious system, and incorporating smart alert mechanisms for better engagement with home and health activities. The system will also feature emergency identification and access improvements.

Validation will involve collaboration with the hearing-impaired community through surveys and testing.

This research seeks to provide a robust, user-friendly solution that significantly enhances the quality of life and independence for the hearing-impaired, addressing current technological gaps and ensuring privacy and security.
