Although Turnitin is helpful for providing a summary of matching or highly similar text found in a submitted paper, it does not help with allegations of contract cheating, where work is original but created by someone other than the student who has submitted it.
The University has now subscribed to an additional service as part of the Turnitin license called Turnitin Originality which compares all the work a student has uploaded to Turnitin and creates a set of indicators that might flag a risk for contract cheating.
Turnitin Originality is only available to a team of investigators in Student Experience, Teaching and Learning, who will use the tool, alongside experience and expertise, to investigate student work which academic colleagues suspect could be the product of contract cheating.
If you suspect there is a problem with a piece of work submitted by a student related to contract cheating and you would like us to help you investigate it by generating a report through Turnitin Originality, you can refer it to the university’s specialist team of Contract Cheating Investigators from within Grade Centre on any Blackboard site by clicking on the Bb Support button.
