Panopto lecture capture now available
The University has invested in lecture capture software, provided by Panopto, to support the flexible delivery of teaching and to make recorded materials available to all students that will enable and enhance our Autumn 2020 delivery and beyond.
Panopto can be used to record new material but you can also upload videos created in other software into Panopto to simplify distributing materials to students. Panopto will be integrated with Blackboard following the Blackboard upgrade at the end of August and this will allow for recordings to be created, stored and accessed directly from Blackboard sites.
Additional benefits of Panopto include accessibility features such as automatic subtitling, ability to add quizzes to videos, facility for staff-student discussion linked to content of recordings, unlimited storage, and reporting on student engagement with learning materials.
Panopto can be used both on and off campus by using your usual username and password to log in to Panopto (ensure that you use the ‘SHU Login’ option). This will take you to your private folder where you can see your existing recordings and videos and create or upload new ones.
Panopto is intended to complement existing technologies, such as Zoom, Collaborate, Screencast-o-matic and Camtasia, rather than replace them. With this in mind, a short guide is available to help identify when Panopto, Zoom or Collaborate is most appropriate for a particular learning and teaching situation.
A set of Lecture Capture Frequently Asked Questions is also available.

There is staff guidance on how to update your version of Chrome if you are on a University laptop. If these instructions do not work for you then please contact IT Help for support in updating Chrome. This is unlikely to affect staff or students accessing on a personal computer as Chrome will update itself automatically.
