New cohort of research fellows joins the AWRC from Greece

This month, the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre welcomed its third cohort of research fellows via the Stavros Niarchos Foundation fellowship exchange programme led by Yorkshire Cancer Research We sat down with Pelagia Mavraki and Marialena Kaframani to learn about the expertise they bring and what they're hoping to achieve over the next three months.

Improving wellbeing outcomes for children and young people through research

The Sheffield Hallam University Children and Young People Physical Activity and Sport research group (CYPAS) held their inaugural knowledge exchange event at the AWRC on Wednesday. AWRC to host inaugural children and young people physical activity and sport knowledge exchange event

The CYPAS knowledge exchange event has been designed to support researchers and those in practice to connect, and to improve the dissemination of research to those who can make best use of it. Research will be presented from physical activity and sport in education, community and health settings.

AWRC welcomes researchers from Greece as part of international fellowship exchange programme

This month we welcomed two researchers to the AWRC as part of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation fellowship exchange programme led by Yorkshire Cancer Research. Vasiliki Xanthopoulou and Konstantina Karnarou will spend three months at Sheffield Hallam University working primarily alongside Active Together and learning about the wider work of the Centre while sharing their own expertise in sport and exercise science.

AWRC Voices: Better Learners Better Workers – how young people in Sheffield are leading the way in challenging physical inactivity

In February 2025, the Training and Education pillar at the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre hosted students from nine schools across Sheffield as part of the Better Learners, Better Workers Programme, supported by Sheffield Hallam University. Work experience student Michelle Hicken - who helped to organise the event as part of her AWRC placement - writes about the day for this month's AWRC Voices.
