Move More awards celebrate Sheffield’s physical activity heroes

The annual Move More awards, which celebrate the individuals, organisations and communities who work tirelessly to helping people in Sheffield to be more active, were held on Friday evening at the Crown Plaza hotel in the city.
The evening got off to an energetic start with a dazzling performance from Pinder Dance Productions, before BBC Radio Sheffield’s Paulette Edwards and South Yorkshire’s Active Lives Commissioner, Ed Clancey OBE took to the stage to begin the ceremony.

The night started strong for the AWRC, with our cancer prehabilitation programme Active Together picking up the first award for clinical service of the year. The judging panel was impressed with the service’s focus on supporting participants throughout their journey, from diagnosis and preparation for treatment, to recovery and living beyond cancer. The team’s efforts to influence national conversations about the importance of movement were also commended, as well as their continued success in transforming outcomes for patients and their families. A big congratulations to the Active Together team.

Our founding Director, Professor Rob Copeland was awarded the first Move More legacy award in recognition of his significant contributions to sport and physical activity in Sheffield. Rob was integral to the creation of the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Science (NCSEM) in Sheffield back in 2012, and, as its Director for the first ten years, was heavily involved in setting up Move More.
The judges said, “Sheffield simply would not be where it is today in sport and physical activity without Rob. He has positioned the city at the forefront of co-located health and leisure provision and whole-system approaches, while laying the foundations for the work we now see across the city. That legacy is what makes moments like this possible, where we can recognise and celebrate the people helping Sheffield to Move More.”
A huge congratulations, too, to Rob. You can read more about his achievements as Director of the AWRC between 2020 and 2026 here.
We were also delighted to see friends of the AWRC Darnall Well Being win the Move More Inclusive Champion of the Year, and Richard Caborn pick up the Move More Lifetime Achievement Award. You can read more about all the winners here

Thank you to the fantastic NCSEM team who worked incredibly hard to put on such a great evening and celebrate the people who are working so hard to make Sheffield a happier, healthier city. Congratulations to all the winners!
