AWRC hosts launch of Sheffield Youth Alliance

On Monday 22nd September, the AWRC welcomed youth leaders and practitioners from across the city for the inaugural gathering of the Sheffield Youth Alliance.
This new alliance seeks to create space for collective work in Sheffield, focused on increasing outcomes for all young people through collaboration. Dave Hembrough of the School of Sport and Physical Activity and AWRC co-locator/embedded researcher sits on the organising group of the alliance.
The first partners day focused on shaping the vision and mission of the alliance, with participants exploring how to turn shared ambitions into tangible action. Central to the day were five ‘big statements’ on the future of Sheffield for children and young people:
Young people shape the future
Sheffield is known nationally as a place where young people genuinely share power
Opportunities are open to everyone
Every young person can find and follow the opportunities that matter to them. No barriers, no closed doors
Wellbeing is everyone’s right
Health, happiness and safety are non-negotiable foundations for all children and young people
Collaboration drives creativity and change
Sheffield is recognised across the UK as a hub of collaboration, innovation and shared learning in youth work
Justice and equality are lived realities
Every young person is valued, included and celebrated, no matter who they are or where they come from
