Training and Education

Last week, the recently formed Early Career Researchers network held its first panel session, focusing on navigating uncertainty. The well-attended panel featured the Dean of RIKE, Sarah Pearson; Head of Research Services, Anita Gurney; Head of Research in the School of Sport and Physical Activity, Simon Goodwill; and Lead of the AWRC Transforming Places research theme, Katie Shearn.

All five generously shared their insights, answered questions, and offered thoughtful and strategic advice to support ECRs navigating uncertainty in higher education.

The ECR network is open to all at SHU, and organisers Elysa, Harriet and Tom are keen to build an inclusive and supportive space for sharing experiences, advice, and opportunities.

Looking ahead, the team are planning the next session for Thursday 3rd September. This will likely take a more practical focus on funding opportunities available to ECRs, including how to begin building an income generation CV.

If you are interested in joining the network, please get in touch at awrc@shu.ac.uk
