Sheffield Hallam University’s Hallam Hall was the venue for this week’s South Yorkshire Life Sciences Summit, delivered by Innovation Network South Yorkshire and Health Innovation Yorkshire and the Humber. The summit brought together leaders from government, industry, health and academia to advance the region’s £3.3bn life sciences sector.

Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre Director Rob Copeland joined Prof. James Catto of the University of Sheffield, Lucy Melleney of Darnall Well Being, Christopher Gibbons of Sheffield City Council, and host Katharine Hammond of SYMCA on a panel exploring the importance of prevention and early diagnosis in health policy.

Rob emphasised that a focus on the environments and communities in which people live and work is essential to improving population health, and that we must actively shape the conditions that enable healthy behaviours.

Congratulations to the organisers for curating such an engaging, thought-provoking event and another step in positioning South Yorkshire as a national leader in life sciences and health innovation.

You can read more about our vision for a prevention legacy in our recent report.
