Celebrating 100 years of Yorkshire Cancer Research

On this day in 1925, 18 of Yorkshire’s most influential figures gathered in the library of the Old Medical School at the University of Leeds to found what would become Yorkshire Cancer Research.
A century later, Our Director Prof Rob Copeland was one of 18 researchers, volunteers and supporters who returned to that same room to re-create the charity’s founding moment.
Rob proudly attended the event to represent Active Together, the AWRC’s cancer prehabilitation programme which is funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Rob said ‘We know exercise before cancer treatment helps people cope with surgery, spend less time in hospital and can prepare them well for their post-treatment journey. Thanks to funding from Yorkshire Cancer Research, Active Together is being rolled out across Yorkshire, meaning thousands more people can receive exercise, nutrition and wellbeing support to help them prepare for and recover from their cancer treatment.’
Congratulations to Yorkshire Cancer Research on this fantastic milestone. We look forward to continuing to work together to improve the lives of people affected by cancer across Yorkshire and beyond.
