South Yorkshire Digital Health Hub team contribute to UK Parliament’s digital tech POSTnote
Wearable devices are becoming increasingly common, with up to half of the UK population now owning a smartwatch or similar technology. As the government prepares to launch its 10-Year NHS Plan, there is growing interest in how wearables could help prevent, detect, and manage disease.
Prof. Tim Chico and the team from the South Yorkshire Digital Health Hub – which is based at the AWRC – have contributed to the UK Parliament’s latest POSTnote on consumer wearable devices and disease prevention.
The report highlights that activity tracking through wearables can help boost physical activity levels, which in turn may reduce the risk of multiple diseases. It also explores important considerations around fair access, regulation, and cybersecurity.
