Kavyan Zoughalian: Secure Transparent Mechanisms for Multimodal Assistive Robotic System (MARS) in Healthcare
Kavyan completed a degree in BSc Cybersecurity at Sheffield Hallam University with Dr Jims Marchang as their supervisor for their final-year project in pharmaceutical distribution systems. From then on, they decided to continue their research with the supervision of Dr Jims Marchang and Prof Alessandro Di Nuovo.
What is your PhD research focused on?
To design and implement a transparent secure access control system for socially assistive robots to preserve privacy
Why is it an important area of study?
The traditional one-time authorization opens access to intruders and potential unauthorized users therefore, it is important to secure the communication channel to preserve the user’s right to privacy. The aim is to improve data security and safeguard privacy in human-robot interaction to develop trust and support the broader adoption of robotic solutions for health and wellbeing.
Tell us about your career/academic journey so far
The academic journey so far has been fascinating; although not a smooth ride as it has come with many challenges, however, it has been a great opportunity for me to grow and develop my knowledge in the field of study as well as solve real-world problems.
Why did you choose to study with the AWRC/SHU?
I completed my BSc in Cybersecurity at Hallam with Dr Jims Marchang as my supervisor for the final-year project in pharmaceutical distribution systems using blockchain which led me to gain industry experience as a blockchain developer. After over a year I decided to continue my research with the supervision of Dr Jims Marchang and Prof Alessandro Di Nuovo.
What’s it like being a PhD student at the AWRC? What do you enjoy most?
I enjoy contributing solutions to solve challenges within healthcare and wellbeing which will lead to positive changes within the community
What do you hope to do after your PhD?
Although it is very early to say, I hope I continue with the research and collaborate on future projects.
