Gateway – are you EPA ready?
Gateway is the period of time between an apprentice completing their training and commencing their end-point assessment (EPA), during which the apprentice is asked to showcase the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) that they’ve learned along the way.
Sheffield Hallam University provides more Apprenticeship Courses than any other University in the country. Every Apprentice is supported by an E-portfolio. We use different platforms for different courses and are always looking to improve whilst working with professional body partners and employers. Increasingly we are using MAYTAS Hub but check with your Course Leader and Apprenticeship Coach – you might be using BlackBoard or Pebblepad. Guidance on MAYTAS Hub (including the portfolio bit) is on the AIIR Homepage.
Your E-portfolio will contain a checklist to ensure you are aware of all the things you need to cross off prior to Gateway. These include
- completion of all the mandatory credits on the SHU award
- competence in all KSBs, agreed by your mentor and Apprenticeship Coach
- completion of evidence in your E-portfolio to demonstrate competence
- a complete record to show you have secured the required number of hours for off-the-job training
- completion of any Level 2 English / Maths qualifications (if applicable)
- proof that you have engaged in the themes of
– British value
– Equality, diversity and inclusion - anything else specific to the End Point Assessment of your apprenticeship
You may also want to include actions and outcomes in relation to an agreed (signed off) major work-based project, or significant case studies – check the specific requirements and timing with your Apprenticeship Coach and use the appropriate modules as directed.
A gateway meeting will take place between the Apprentice, Employer and Apprenticeship Coach to confirm that the Apprentice has met all the on programme requirements as set out above and to confirm readiness to progress to EPA. .https://blog.shu.ac.uk/apprenticeship-resources/end-point-assessment/
Once the gateway meeting and paperwork have been completed, you’re officially in the last stage of your apprenticeship, the EPA period. Head to our End Point Assessment Page for further details
