Develop independence
Use observation and reflection to develop and process your understanding of the role and the context your employer is working in. Investigate different options and sources of information. Feedback is sometimes formally offered, but at other times you can read the signals on your own performance and what is working. Be prepared to follow up on a conversation, or a theory that doesn’t quite make sense to you. If you approach your apprenticeship with an inquiring mind you will find answers – sometimes to questions you did not know you were asking!
It is okay to make mistakes as you explore beyond your comfort zone. Part of strong independence is knowing your limitations and managing risk accordingly and spotting when to ask for help.
Is being independent the opposite of being collaborative?
